Grace Knight was the lead singer for The Eurogliders, an Australian band, that was big in the 1980s and had several hits. Grace is originally from Scotland and she writes well and in an entertaining manner. She tells of her interesting life which had its share of challenges including that with her sexually abusive father. The pages tell you the effect it had on her although I felt she may have down played it to some extent which is probably due to her get on with it attitude and her generation. She does tell of how she came to terms with it.Her life has been a rags to riches type of journey with various detours along the way. She married an Australian so she could stay in the country, worked in a castle and surprisingly glosses over her time with The Eurogliders. She mentions though it was something she enjoyed and it went so fast with motherhood being more important. She did though combine the two ventures for many years. The book ends with her pinching herself at being at heart a Scots lass with little money to being a world class performer meeting US President Bill Clinton and tying up loose ends with her father who had messed with her life for so long.
I would have liked to know more about how her life had been damaged by her father's behaviour and more about her time as a Euroglider. Her early formative years seem to be more important to her as that is where the meat and spuds are in this book. She has worked hard most of her life to obtain the success she has which is a lesson for everyone. The book details the usual snapshot of booze and drugs but also demonstrates what can be achieved when you follow your heart and instincts. It was a good read, she does not over write, and caused me to order some of her back catalogue.
